Aura nails are a nail art look that uses a soft, circular colour gradient in the centre of each nail, usually airbrushed or sponged, so the design looks like the halo in an aura photograph.
Also known as: aura manicure, aura nail art, airbrush gradient nails, halo nails
Aura nails take their name from aura photography, where a coloured halo appears around a person. On the nail, a soft cloud of one colour is placed in the centre and fades outwards into a second colour or into a sheer base. The look surfaced on Instagram in late 2021 and stayed in trend lists through 2025 and 2026 (PureWow).
In salons the gradient is usually airbrushed onto gel, which gives the softest edge. At home the same effect can be made with a make-up sponge: a sheer base is applied and dried, a small dot of the centre colour is dabbed on with the sponge and blended outwards, then sealed with a glossy top coat. Jelly or sheer polishes blend more easily than opaque crèmes.
Manicurist Hang Nguyen expected soft, dreamy effects like aura nails to keep trending in 2025 (Marie Claire). In the Dutch press, aura in burgundy was listed for autumn and winter 2026 to 2027 (Jan Magazine).
Classic aura pairings are pink over white, orange over yellow and purple over lilac. A single colour over a sheer nude gives the quietest version. Because the design has no hard lines, small mistakes blend in, which makes aura one of the easier nail art looks for a first attempt.
