Glazed donut nails
Glazed donut nails are a nail look that pairs a milky, sheer white base with a fine pearl chrome powder rubbed over a no-wipe gel top coat, so the nail glows like the sugar glaze on a doughnut.
Also known as: glazed nails, glazed doughnut nails, Hailey Bieber nails, pearl chrome nails
Glazed donut nails are the manicure Hailey Bieber wore to the 2022 Met Gala, created by manicurist Zola Ganzorigt. She used OPI Funny Bunny, a sheer milky white gel, with a pearl chrome powder rubbed over a no-wipe top coat1. The result looks like the sugar glaze on a doughnut: soft white with a pearly, iridescent shine.
The steps in gel are: base coat, two coats of a sheer milky white, a no-wipe top coat cured until tacky, chrome powder rubbed in with a sponge applicator, then a final top coat to seal. The chrome powder must be a fine pearl or white chrome. A silver mirror chrome gives a different, harder look.
Lamp-free versions use a sheer milky polish with a built-in pearl or a pearl topper, which gives a softer version of the glaze. Built-in pearl polish, with the pearl in the formula and not applied as a powder, is a named trend for 20262.
Glazed donut nails set off two later trends. Glass nails kept the gloss and dropped the pearl3. Aura nails kept the soft glow and added colour. The glaze suits short, oval and almond nails and every skin tone because the base is sheer.
