Cloud Dancer nails: the white of 2026, three ways

Pantone announced Cloud Dancer as its colour of the year for 2026 on 4 December 2025. It is a soft white, and it moved onto nails within the week. By January the UK and US trade press were calling milky white the neutral of the year, and by autumn the look had settled into three versions: a sheer wash, a soft French and a pearl white.

Which three ways can you wear Cloud Dancer on nails?

The sheer milky wash is the everyday version. One coat of a sheer milky white evens out the nail and leaves it looking bare but cleaner. Two coats give a soft milk. It suits short round or oval nails and is the base for the other two looks.

Marie Claire's Cloud Dancer recommendations ranged from Essie Pre Show Jitters at 13 dollars to Manucurist Milky White at 19 dollars. Both are sheer milky whites, which is the version that reads as Cloud Dancer on the nail. An opaque white crème is closer to a stripe of paint and shows every brush stroke.

How do you apply a milky white without streaks?

You will need: a nail file, a buffer of 240 grit or finer, nail polish remover, a base coat, a sheer milky white, a glass top coat and cuticle oil.

1. File the nails short and round, moving in one direction along the free edge. Push back the cuticles and buff the plate lightly, so the sheer white has a smooth surface to level on.

How do you keep white nails white?

White shows two things: yellowing and wear at the tip. Yellowing under polish is usually pigment staining the porous nail plate, and a base coat prevents it, according to the Mayo Clinic.
